Human Rights advocates in Milwaukee including the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) coordinated and submitted a Milwaukee shadow report to the CERD Committee in December 2007. The advocates were subsequently approached by Mayor Tom Barrett to request their assistance in restructuring the mandate of the the Human Rights Commission of the City. They have been meeting with the Mayor’s staff since January 2007, and have identified a goal of achieving racial and economic equality for the Commission. They plan to submit follow up report to the CERD Committee which will emphasize positive steps that have been taken since the release of the CERD report. They have also been working on the Human Rights Commission’s accountability structure.
