In 2003, the New York City Council implemented Local Law No. 73, which amended the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to the provision of language assistance services. In particular, it amended Title 8 by adding a new chapter 10 that included some of the following: language assistance services to limited English proficient individuals, translation of documents into every covered language, and training of blingual personnels and interpreters.
