Threat to Civil Rights Enforcement in California from the Governor's Office

Frank Russo reports on the poor state of civil rights enforcement in California, highlighting the Schwarzenegger Administration's unilateral decision to dismantle the Fair Employment and Housing Commission (FEHC). This body "is charged by law with promoting and enforcing the civil rights of California - to be free from unlawful discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations, and to be free from hate violence and threats of violence." Democrats in the State Legislature are visibly upset by what they see as a hugely undemocratic move by the administration, given the fact that they were not consulted about this decision.

Please write letters to the Fair Employment and Housing Commission if at all possible if they have any concerns. The fax number is (415) 557-0855. Letters should be addressed to:

Fair Employment and Housing Commission
455 GOLDEN GATE AVENUE, SUITE 10600
SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94102-3660
